"Auntie Rose's Porch Light" When I think of my Auntie Rose, I don't first remember a holiday, or a big family gathering, or even a single moment in time. I remember her as a guiding light. It didn't matter what time it was, late evening, early morning, or somewhere in between when the world felt quiet and uncertain, her porch light was always on. We all knew that we were always welcome, no matter what kind of trouble, confusion, or growing pains life had handed us, Auntie Rose had a place for you to sit, to talk, and to be reminded of who you were. She was the kind of woman who would give you her last piece of bread and then sit you down right after and tell you the truth you didn't always want to hear, but needed to. That was her way. Love first, always. But never without wisdom. I remember her saying to me once, "Baby, life don't bend just because you want it to. You gotta meet it where it stands." She never raise her voice. She didn't judge. That was Auntie Rose, firm, honest, and rooted in a kind of love that didn't waver. She carried herself with a strength that wasn't loud, but it was undeniable. The kind of strength that comes from living, from enduring, from loving people through their best and their worst days. And she never made you feel like a burden. She made you feel like you belonged. To me, she wasn't just my mother's sister. She was a guidepost. A steady voice. A reminder that kindness and truth can live in the same breath. That you can give everything you have and still stand strong in who you are. Even now, I can see her porch light glowing. And I realize, it isn't just a memory in my head, it's her spirit. Always on. Always reaching. Always saying, "You're not alone." Auntie Rose didn't just live 71 years, she filled them with something that will last far beyond them. In the lessons she gave, the love she showed, and the lives she touched, her light is still on. And it always will be. Your Nephew, Reggie
